Summer Opportunities
The IHSA permits organized summer volleyball activities during a period roughly corresponding to June and July. During those times, there are many activities available. Summer activities are made possible by Booster Club funding – most of which comes from summer car washes. Participants in these leagues are expected to attend. Dates for all sessions are on the online calendar and are given to prospective players in the spring.
Practices
In these sessions coaches provide instruction to improve individual skills and to prepare for summer competition. All high school athletes practice during the same time, but may be divided for instruction based on age or skill level.
Camp
Centennial volleyball offers a number of one week camps including opportunities for girls entering grades 4 through 12. All three camps require advanced registration and there is a fee for the camp participation. Each camper receives a T-Shirt at the conclusion of the camp. Camps Page
Open Gyms
Outside of the summer volleyball “season” on the calendar, volleyball staff may open the Centennial gym for volleyball activities. Coaches will monitor gym for safety, but will not provide volleyball instruction. Activities will be student-driven. These dates are scheduled to allow players to “warm-up” for summer season and for tryouts.
The following opportunities are also available for students. They require advanced sign-up with the coaches. Opportunities vary by age and skill level.
Freshmen Summer League
For summer 2009, local freshman play is being held at Centennial. Two teams (Blue, White) will be created from the pool of interested freshman who have signed-up. Play will take place on July 2, 9, 16, 23. Centennial’s times are posted on the league calendar. Freshman League Page
Parkland Tournament
One freshman team and one JV team will be entered in a JV Parkland Tournament on June 27-28. Instructions will be given to players who sign up. JV Parkland Tournament Schedule
JV Summer League
For summer 2009, local JV play is being held at Central High School. One Centennial team, composed of primarily sophomores (juniors and freshmen are eligible) will be entered for contests taking place on Thursdays in July. Central League Schedule
Varsity Leagues and Tournaments
Varsity-level players will have opportunities to compete in Mahomet League during Mondays in June. They also have tournaments scheduled at Parkland on June 19-20, Bradley-Bourbonnais on July 27, and Quincy on July 31-August 1. Varsity players also attend Wisconsin Camp on July 17-18, but registration is required in late spring to participate.
